Setting the Scene

On a warm July 4th morning, we set foot into Starlite Diner on Route 100 in Allentown. We were greeted by some very pushy management, rushing their wait staff to get tables cleared, but they may have just acted like this because of the holiday crowd. Regardless of what day it was, we did not have to wait long for our diner breakfast to arrive.

Our orders had to change this morning. Ben still had his OJ with eggs benedict, but the lack of a breakfast wrap had Bethany shifting gears to “country style eggs”.

Bethany

I began my meal with the classic water and decaf coffee. While the water was good and not chlorinated, the coffee was disappointing with its burnt taste. Starlite Diner does not serve a breakfast wrap, so I ended up getting country style eggs, which is egg, cheese, onions, and potatoes all mixed together (usually, I call it a “mess”). Overall, it was not a very good mess. The onions were raw, and while I typically don't complain about that, it took away from the rest of the dish. I also did not like that the cheese on the top was not melted when it came to me as if they had just sprinkled it on before walking out. I need my cheese to be melty. I will admit, I missed having a breakfast wrap after this meal.

Ben

Starting off with OJ…it was fine but was slightly off in a way that I'm having trouble describing. Even Bethany agrees, something was just…off. The eggs benedict was pretty good. The hollandaise was unremarkable, nothing to write home about. The egg was bordering on under done, with the whites just barely being cooked. It did work out because the potatoes lacked salt (and overall flavor), but the super runny yolk gave the potatoes a much needed sauce.
