Robin's Nest

Robin's Nest

Robin's Nest is located on the main drag of Belmar, NJ with a building that is hard to miss. One side is a mural depicting characters from Alice in Wonderland, a decorative theme that continues inside. Decor included a backwards clock and other Alice in Wonderland pictures. Robin must have really enjoyed that movie. Speaking of interior design, the inside of Robin's Nest was an old classic diner feel with no booths. Instead, there was one big counter the length of the building and tables turned diagonally for maximum seating numbers and minimum room to sit in those seats. Dinners could see both cooks at the flat top so breakfast and a show were doable. The menu was a good size and they serve all the classic breakfast items.

I got my regular decaf and water. Decaf was fine, nothing noteworthy but a decent cup of coffee. I feel like my standard for good coffee is slightly higher at this point, and a lot of places just don't have impressive coffee. The water was very good, no chlorine taste at all. They did have a special for a carnitas burrito but I decided to continue with my New Jersey trend of getting pork roll. I got pork roll, egg, and cheese on a wrap (instead of just a regular breakfast sandwich) with a side of home fries. The pork roll was much better than the previous pork roll I got at Comfi. It was a little bit thicker cut and it just tasted better. The egg was fine. It almost gave like pre-mixed egg vibes like something you would get from a sizzli at Wawa. Honestly, not a complaint™. The American cheese was super melty. It just really hit the spot. It was also a whole wheat tortilla which I don't think adds or takes away from it. The ratio of all the ingredients inside was really good so in my opinion, the wrap was really delicious. The home fries were fine. They were definitely like a smaller cut, sliced potato. They were evenly cooked but no crispy bits or any change in texture which I was kind of missing. It did look like they had some sort of seasoning on them based on the color/look but by flavor there was no flavor. It needed salt and ketchup.

For dessert (because you need dessert with breakfast, and our third reviewer had finally fallen asleep and we needed to kill some time) we got a single pancake. It was a pretty average pancake. Nothing special about it. It was a little heavy but the prepackaged syrup was nice and sweet and the pancake was cooked through so it was fine. I wouldn't need to get it again.

I was feeling extra tired this morning so I actually got a coffee as well. I tried just putting sugar in the raw and I believed two packets would be more than enough for sweetness. It wasn't. I'm just trying to drown out the coffee flavor so I had to add a sweet and low as well. It was fine coffee. Nothing that I can even think to describe. I also got an orange juice later. They have the option of canned Tropicana or fresh squeezed so I went with some fresh squeezed. It was pretty good. It did taste like they just squeezed some oranges, which I guess is what you'd expect. I just feel like I've gotten better orange juice before.

They only had one eggs Benedict. It was just the classic, which is fine. It was pretty dang standard. It needed salt; even the Hollandaise itself was a little bland. The egg was cooked perfectly. Canadian bacon was pretty standard. The English muffin was pretty standard as well.

The potatoes were not good. They were approaching mashed potatoes like the cooks were touching them too much and they just fell apart. No crispiness. It looked like there should be some flavoring in it but I didn't really pick up any. They needed some salt. I think their ketchup was really off-brand too which you could tell and it kind of threw me off.

The pancake was tasted okay. It's pretty standard but it like really like stuck to my mouth. I feel like it turned into glue once I chewed it.

I could barely fit in my seat, and my seat kept rocking back and forth. Almost made me not want to sleep. Almost.
