New City View Diner

Setting the Scene

New City View Diner sits atop a hill on MacArthur Boulevard in Whitehall Township. Its namesake however is disappointing as there is not much of a view from the diner unless you consider a Midas and Blinds To Go a view. It is very outdated on the exterior and there were signs on the doors indicated to renovations inside. Based on the “new” part of their name and the updated interior and menu, we believe this diner has changed hands recently. We appreciate the attempts at amping up the menu and interior, but overall, we were not impressed. The food was pretty mid, seeming to go for style over substance, but hopefully positive changes come for them soon.

I ordered my classic drinks of water and decaf coffee. Both were not good. The water was chlorinated and the coffee was just not a good cup of coffee. Like in Elf when Buddy takes Jovie to the “world’s best coffee” and she is super disappointed in the coffee…that is how I felt. I ordered their chorizo burrito made with spicy chorizo, eggs, cheese, avocado, onions, and peppers. Overall, not bad for a diner breakfast burrito. The chorizo was not spicy at all, like literally no spice at all, and there was almost too much of it in the burrito (like it took over all the other flavors). I liked the peppers and onions (not cooked super hard which is what I like) and there was tons of cheese in it which was good. It came with salsa and sour cream. The salsa was sweet (not a fan) but the sour cream was a nice addition. The hash browns were pretty good. They had a nice crust on top and were oily underneath. With some salt and ketchup I enjoyed them.

The orange juice I got was pretty standard. Nothing to complain about. Nothing to praise. The hash browns were probably the highlight of the entire meal. They weren’t mind-blowing. They were just the best part. The eggs benedict was really not good. The hollandaise had effectively no flavor and it was cold. The egg was not runny, not even a little bit. I did not enjoy the egg, and that is rare for me to say. The ham was far too thick. The muffin must have been whole wheat or something or maybe it was just old. I don’t know. It was very chewy and tough to cut through with a knife. The proportions of everything were off and it was just a bad eggs benedict.
