Katie’s Country Kitchen is now an official member of the “annoying and complicated parking lots” list we seem to be adding to with every review. The eatery is located right on Route 309 which is a fairly busy road. If you are coming from the south (which we were), there is a blind left turn that you need to make into the very awkwardly triangular shaped lot. Don’t let the bullet hole in the window (or at least that is what the waitress called it) deter you from going inside this very cute breakfast joint. The breakfast menu itself is very small, only taking up the bottom quarter of the front of the two-sided menu. While the choices are limited, they still have all the classics (including eggs benedict even though Ben could not originally see it). The decor inside put an emphasis on the “country” in Katie’s Country Kitchen, and they do love their highland cows.

The coffee was fine. It comes in such a small mug that I put two sweeteners in when I really didn't need to. I actually ended up getting more coffee added to it because it had that weird artificial sweetener taste (but that’s my fault, not theirs). The water was really good and refreshing. Although there was a breakfast burrito on the menu, I decided to lean into my title as the “beyond” and grab their Katie’s Breakfast special, including two eggs (over medium), choice of meat (I chose sausage), homefries, toast, and pancakes. I like that the waitress immediately asked if we wanted onions on the homefries (which is an automatic yes for me). While it did cost a little extra, as Ben says in his review, it was totally worth it. I’ll start with the homefries. They were excellent. These might have moved up to my favorite potatoes. They were chunks of real potatoes that you could tell someone cut up by hand. They were super crispy on at least one side, and despite their random sizes, there were none over or under cooked. The onions on it with some salt and ketchup were so freaking good. The eggs were perfectly cooked with that nice runny yolk but no yucky snot egg white parts. The toast hit for some reason, I don't know what it was. It was perfectly toasted for me on the lighter side and just the right amount of butter made it excellent. The sausages were links and the waitress told me that they were housemade. They had like a little bit of natural casing and the inside was super juicy and tender and had a really nice flavor. I always get worried with sausage but these were delicious. was excellent when it came to the potatoes. These might now be my favorite potatoes. The pancake was my least favorite part. It was too dense and very heavy. Now that we've been getting pancakes at a couple different places, my standard for pancakes is higher. I did however enjoy the massive cup of soft butter that they gave, but it doesn’t make up for the dense pancakes.

When I first scoured the menu, I didn't see the eggs benedict. Luckily Bethany has some eyes and saw them on the menu. I ordered that with onions added to the potatoes which I'll talk about more later. The eggs benedict was pretty good. The egg was well cooked. The sauce was a little broken but it was really tasty. It was pretty buttery and was good. My guess is that they don't sell a lot of eggs benedict and that sauce might have been vibing for a bit. The ham was a little on the thick side. The English muffin was destroyed like they stomped on it before they put up the plate, but whatever it's still pretty good. Potatoes are very nice. They were cut kind of chaotically, I would say, but they had some pieces that were really crisp. No pieces were undercooked and the onions were just fire. Turns out it was extra money but that's so worth it. The orange juice was very strong, definitely from concentrate but it was kind of nice. I tried the pancake. It was not very good. I can feel my stomach right now. It feels like a bowling ball and I only had three bites.

The waitress tried to shmooze me by telling me I was really cute. I think she was trying to make up for the fact that there’s no breastmilk on the menu.
