Setting the Scene

Hamilton Family Restaurant definitely has old diner vibes. With faded neon lights and teal colored paneling on the outside and shiny walls and ceilings on the inside, it feels like the classic diner everyone knows. It had a big salad bar already fully stocked for the lunch and dinner crowd and the booths and chairs look the same as most diners in the area. We loved that on the hours of operation sign (just a piece of paper attached to the door with scotch tape) they refer to themselves as the "Ham Fam".

Bethany

I got decaf and water. Water was chlorinated but the coffee was actually delicious for a diner cup of coffee. Ben (someone who doesn't drink a lot of coffee) enjoyed it so much that he drank half of it so I actually ended up getting a second cup (which has never happened before). I ordered a Western wrap which had egg, cheese, ham, onions, and peppers. I can't believe I'm saying this, but it was better than Chris's breakfast wrap. This is officially my new favorite and the main reason is the ratio of fillings to egg inside the wrap was ideal. I also feel like the wrap itself wasn't too big. It was a manageable size to eat and the gooey cheese and barely cooked vegetables made it an absolute home run. The home fries were mid. They needed a lot of salt and some of them had a good crisp but a lot did not.

Benjamin

The waitress asked if I wanted ice cubes in my orange juice which, if you are a long time reader, you’ll remember that was part of the Bethlehem Diner experience. I laughed in my head when she asked, and replied “no”. However, she was definitely asking for a reason, since the orange juice came out like it was born at room temperature. It was off putting enough that I actually stole some ice cubes from Bethany’s water since I was too embarrassed to ask for ice.
For the first time in a review, I got a non-classic Eggs Benedict. Something was calling to me about the corned beef hash eggs benedict so I decided to try it.The corned beef itself was extremely well-grilled, which I appreciate. Sometimes corned beef can be a kind of mushy mess, but this one had some structure because it was grilled so hard. The muffin was well toasted, bordering on over toasted. The egg got the job done which is pretty much all you can ask for. I can’t remember how liquidy the yolk was, but that probably means it was not too runny or too firm. The sauce was better tasting than most but nothing to write home about. Overall, the benedict itself was good.
The potatoes had a weird mix of really crispy bits and undercooked chunks which feels impressive to do. It almost felt like they took some of the potatoes leftover from the previous day and incorporated some of the new potatoes, but I have zero evidence of that. I still can’t tell if I liked them even though I usually appreciate some crispy bits in the potatoes.
