Coplay Eatery

Coplay Eatery is located at the end of the main drag of Chestnut Street in Coplay, PA. The diner itself gives off the vibe of the corner of a strip mall in the middle of a neighborhood. The parking lot wraps around the building, forcing drivers to back out of spots directly into the road. There are no other businesses on the block, so the restaurant feels out of place. Your reviewers have different impressions of the interior. Coplay Eatery was established in 2021, so to one reviewer, the inside is a more modern take on a diner. The other reviewer is insistent that it was an old diner that was bought out and revamped, trying to look more modern than it is.
For the first time since beginning these reviews, the woman who sat us asked if we were okay with the location of the table. It was very sweet, and the booth we sat at was a great spot. The menu was expansive. Like very large. It has a ton of options for different sandwiches and things off the griddle. There are eight choices in benedicts alone and an entire section on breakfast wraps (where a lot of places you will be lucky to find one). The menu itself was laminated with such heavy duty laminate that you would think they want these to survive an apocalypse. The menu definitely has a Latino influence, with options like chorizo, carnitas, and hollandaise, but we will see if the flavors live up to our expectations.

The water was a bit chlorinated; not too much, but I could still taste it. The decaf tasted old, like it had been in the pot for a while. Not my fav. I ordered the Coplay breakfast wrap because I happened to be married to a man who insists on ordering dishes that are named after the establishment. Honestly though, it was the best decision of the day. The wrap had egg, chorizo, carnitas, tomatoes, cheese, and pickled jalapenos. It is up there with potentially one of the best breakfast wraps I’ve had in a long time. Just everything on it made sense. It had the correct ratio of all the fillings (there were just a few too many jalapenos for me so I had to take some out because it was too spicy). The chorizo did not have an overpowering flavor unlike some I’ve had in the past. They also crisped up the outside, which I love. It came with a side of salsa and sour cream. Not going to lie, I judged the fact that the sour cream came in mayo-packet style, but it has since changed the sour cream game for me. You can squeeze out exactly how much you want on each bite instead of having to scoop it out or dip it into the container. 10 out of 10, would do that again. I anticipated that the salsa would be just your average prepackaged salsa, but again I was proven wrong. I’m not sure if it was homemade, but it definitely tasted fresh and not from a can or jar. The tomatoes even looked fire-roasted. It was excellent and really added to the wrap. The potatoes were just okay. Ben’s looked much better than mine. His had a really nice crisp on the top, while mine had a little crisp but not nearly enough. They needed a lot of salt and ketchup.

I’m pretty sure that I have explained this before, but I will retell for any new readers. I used to work at Butter Valley Golf Port back in the day, and we had cinnamon swirl french toast on our menu. The best part was the Sysco brand cinnamon glaze, and ever since leaving there, I have been on a mission to find it again. Folks, I believe we have finally found it. I was literally brought to tears at the table because they brought out our cinnamon swirl pancake and it was covered in that cinnamon glaze. It brought me right back to my Butter Valley days, and it was a flavor that I have missed and craved for years. The pancake itself was excellent. It was well cooked, with a crispy exterior and fluffy interior. It had a nice big cinnamon swirl in it and was topped with that nostalgic glaze. They also came with a scoop of whipped butter that looked like whipped cream. Not that the pancake needed any additional fat, but I liked the idea of it. I feel at peace knowing that I can come back here anytime for my cinnamon swirl fix.

The orange juice was standard. I ordered the Coplay Special Benedict with avocado, carnitas, and chipotle hollandaise. While the benedict looked good when it came out, it was hands down the worst eggs benedict I’ve ever had in my life. The main problem was the hollandaise. It tasted weird, like extremely mayo-y and not like hollandaise at all. It had a funky twang to it, making me wonder if I’m going to be throwing up my guts here in a little bit. The carnitas were so un-flavorful it was insane. The meat was also cold. The muffin was fine. The only redeeming quality of the dish was the avocado. I’ll give it to the avocado; it was perfectly ripe and tasted good. I ordered this version because it is on their menu all the time and named after them. It’s just disgraceful that they would name their place after an eggs benedict that tastes so bad. My potatoes looked and tasted excellent. They were very enjoyable.
The pancakes were delicious. Just divine. Very sweet but delicious with the cinnamon glaze. They had a good crust on them, which you usually don’t get.

no more coplay benedict, but the pancakes and wrap are worth a revisit
