Comfi

Comfi

Comfi of Belmar is a local breakfast and lunch joint located on Main Street in Belmar, NJ. They are known for their large portions and funky menu items, including a lot of Polish choices such as pierogi omelets and kielbasa. The decor inside is cozy, with lots of wood accents and “live, laugh, love” signs littering the walls. One of the signs even said “We do family”, but the lack of changing tables in the bathroom do not seem to support the “family” atmosphere. We arrived as soon as it opened (thanks to our newest reviewer) so service was very quick. The menu boasts so many options that it is overwhelming. There are 12 different benedicts to choose from, each with their own unique builds, and that takes up maybe a quarter of one page of the menu.

Bethany

Comfi — Bethany's dish

My decaf coffee came in probably the biggest mug that I've ever received. It was basically three coffees in one. The coffee itself was fine, there was nothing noteworthy about it. I did laugh a little bit when the waitress asked me if I wanted more coffee when I had barely drank half. No ma'am, you gave me enough to last 3 days. I ended up getting a Benedict because there were so many options and there were no breakfast wrap options. I went with “Jersey on my Mind”, a New Jersey classic with pork roll on it (I love pork roll, although it was funny they call it that and not Taylor Ham because Jersey is super annoying about that…). It had pork roll, bacon, American cheese, sauteed onions, tomatoes, scallions (which I definitely didn't see) and 2 poached eggs all on a kaiser roll. It came out looking like a burger which I was very confused about, but it was just the two sides of the Kaiser roll stacked on top of each other, which was kind of silly in my opinion because I had to unstack them to eat them correctly. I also got my choice of Hollandaise sauce (because there were 3 options) and I decided to get the jalapeno hollandaise. It was good, but there was no strong jalapeno flavor. I want to be blown away with jalapeno flavor so much that I want to regret ordering it because there's so much jalapeno on it. This was just not the case. Honestly, it was hard to tell anything apart because of just the absolute cluster that was my plate. I had to dig and scoop everywhere to get bits and pieces of the bacon and the pork roll and the onions and kind of compose a bite. In terms of the eggs, one of them was really nicely poached with a nice runny yolk and the other was overdone, but I'm not going to complain too much because I'd rather have overdone poached eggs than underdone. The whole dish was just super salty and heavy and way too much food (like a comically large amount of food that no sane person should ever eat the whole thing in one sitting). The tomato, which I totally thought was a weird addition at first, ended up being a savior of the dish because without it it was just so heavy and salty. The potatoes were not great. They were super unevenly cut and cooked and they did have a little seasoning on them which was nice when you got a bit on your bite, but it wasn't enough to carry the potatoes. I just felt like the whole meal was trying too hard. You don't need crazy combos and portions to be good.

Ben

Comfi eggs benedict

Oj was standard and unremarkable. There were so many eggs Benedicts on the menu. I've never seen so many. They all sounded really good. They all had interesting stuff on them. There's three choices of Hollandaise for every single Benedict. I went with the Comfi Benedict, which I had to get because it's named after the restaurant. So it's got to be good right? Wrong. It was a croissant cut in half with two chicken cutlets, a vegetable medley of sauteed onions, asparagus, and mushrooms, three eggs, and the traditional hollandaise sauce. Problem was this is like two breakfasts in one and I also saw that it didn't come with home fries. I was like “oh I need some home fries” but I didn't realize how big it was going to be. So I definitely didn't need the homefries. The chicken cutlet was more than well done. It was congratulations. Eggs were cooked fine. Sometimes I was digging the asparagus on it and sometimes I was not. I'd say the vegetables were actually cooked okay. The croissant absorbed all the moisture from the vegetables and became like wet cardboard. Granted it was buttery wet cardboard, but it's still weird. The whole thing just barely made any sense. It was bizarre. I wouldn't say I hated it but it definitely was not good. Also like it's just comically way too much food. Cut that in half and put some home fries to go with it and that would be a good meal. Speaking of home fries, I did get the side order.

Comfi — Caroline's dish

They were so unevenly cooked. I swear a blind person cut them. So the big ones were undercooked, borderline raw, and then the small ones were actually good. I had a little bit of seasoning on them but not enough. They were super bland. I had to add ketchup and salt to make them edible. I usually finish my meal. I ate approximately half of my Benedict and maybe a third of the potatoes and didn't take them to go which tells you something.

Caroline

My dad had to change me on the bathroom floor, so I was not happy about the bathroom situation. Ruined my appetite so I didn't eat anything.
