Billy's Downtown Diner, Part II

Billy's Downtown Diner, Part II

9:38 - 10:32 am

All right folks. We are back at Billy's Diner. We are at the Easton location this time, not the Bethlehem location. The interior of Billy's in Easton is slightly different than the one in Bethlehem. It's a much more open concept and slightly more of an upscale feel. It definitely does not give diner vibes but rather a nice restaurant. They had plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, but we chose to eat inside at a half booth-half chairs table. The seating was extremely comfortable, and even at a prime breakfast time, we were seated immediately.

After not being impressed with their coffee last time, I decided to pass today and go for one of my favorite drinks, Arnold Palmer (half tea, half lemonade). It was outstanding, the perfect amount of sweet. Their iced tea is not sweetened so the lemonade added the right amount. I had both the tea and lemonade on their own and mine was the best. Very, very delicious.
I ordered a Deli breakfast sandwich with a sausage patty, egg, and cheese on a brioche roll. The cheese is called a cheddar skirt because I think it’s supposed to crisp up a bit on the grill. For me, that’s not necessary and they didn’t really execute it well. Just throw a piece of fake American cheese on there and I'll be happy. It was called out on the menu, so I expected it to be an important part of the sandwich, but it didn’t really add or subtract anything from the actual sandwich. The absolute best part of that sandwich is the fact that the sausage patty not only tasted outstanding, but it took up the entire roll. The sausage itself is on the softer side; it's not very tough or chewy (you know how sometimes like sausage patties can get). Other than the good texture and flavor, it took up the entire roll! It's not like those baby little sausage patty nugget things that you get most of the time. It was big, like the circumference of a hamburger, not the thickness. It's still pretty thin but there was sausage in every single bite which I appreciated. Brioche roll was good and not too sweet. It was a nice density to be able to hold up to the sandwich because the sandwich had a lot of egg. The egg was good. It was like a fluffy scrambled egg. No complaints there. On the side I ordered some of their papas (breakfast potatoes) but I “Billified” them, meaning I got chili, sour cream, cheese, and jalapenos on it. Oh my goodness, it's so good. I love their chili. It's nice and sweet. Same as what I got last time just in a different form factor. I actually took some of the jalapenos and put them onto my breakfast sandwich which was outstanding. I've been on a jalapeno kick recently so you might notice that pattern in some of my reviews. But the jalapenos added a nice spice to the sandwich. The papas at the top were the best, the potatoes underneath that didn't have any of the chili or sour cream on it were just fine. Overall, outstanding breakfast.

They had a lot of options for Benedict, which I think I commented on in the previous review. I decided to try the BLT Bomb Benedict. As you'd expect it has kind of the main components of a BLT. There were bacon strips but also crumbled up bacon on top. There was tomato instead of ham and a lot of pieces of lettuce. When I first got it, I was kind of confused by the lettuce because I felt like it didn’t really fit with the benedict. But then I remembered that I ordered a BLT themed benedict... It had a hollandaise sauce on it (obviously) and that was good. Nothing extraordinary, but it all came together pretty well. I got some papas without anything on top of them, and I kind of regret doing that. I feel like I would have enjoyed some onions or peppers or something to spice it up a little bit, but they're still pretty solid. Not my favorite, but not too bad. The orange juice is spectacular. It's fresh squeezed actual oranges, not from concentrate, which again I've gushed over in my previous reviews. It feels like they get it from oranges that are actually good and ripe. I mean, you can squeeze oranges but if your oranges aren't good, they're not going to taste as sweet. It almost feels like they add a little bit of extra sweetness of sugar but I bet you they just use high quality oranges.
